Apologies...

I apologize for posting so late today. Blogger has caused me considerable grief of late, and today was no exception. I regularly find that I cannot access my account, my site, or the comments page of my site. I am fed up with Blogger's flakey behaviour. In fact, I'm seriously considering taking this blog elsewhere. Any thoughts on this issue? I'd be curious to know if anyone else is having similar trouble with Blogger. Which host would you recommend for such a photoblog as mine.

This photo was taken about six weeks ago when I was at the park with the kids. I had taken many pictures of plants and animals while at the park, but I didn't like any of those photos. I found this lock on a metal panel on the ground and liked the rusty colours and the side lighting. My wife included this image on her blog last month, but I decided to post it here too. I'm afraid I forgot to take note of the EXIF data when I uploaded this, and I can't get it now because I'm in Oregon.

I'm travelling back to Vancouver tomorrow, so I may not have a chance to post until Friday morning. I'm hoping to be able to visit your blogs tomorrow evening. My early morning photo hunt was a mild success and I'll tell you all about it on Friday.

I've seen some of the problems, but not as bad as you seem to be facing... I like blogger including it's odd ways, in one sense its more real.. but i can understand the frustration. I'd stick with it for another month and see if it's still a pain, and the move it if thats the case..

This doesn't happen with blogger too often, but it is very frustrating when it does. I've been having the same troubles as you have. The time before this, it took almost a week to sort things out. I've decided to just to put up with it. Most of the time things work fine, and for a free account, I'm not going to grumble too loudly.

Blogger has been "glitchy" for the past few days, but I love it's functionality when all is well...besides, you can't beat the price!

That is the very reason I left blogger, it seems to have a lot of problems.

Shutterchance is a great free service, but I use expressions. $30 per year and you have full control over template and other features. Either way I think you would have much less trouble posting.

Nice shot -- really like the composition.

Another photoblog hosting service to consider is my-expressions.com. I've been with them for a while, and the people who run it are quite responsive. And it's cheap. They are developing a new version of the service now that will provide even more flexibility. They have a lot of templates that you can use, but if you are CSS/HTML saavy, you can tailor it to have your look and feel.

Blogger was pretty messed up yesterday. They had a database issue. It was straightened out fairly quickly, I thought. I haven't had too much trouble with Blogger since I started in February. I think it was glitchy perhaps 3 times, yesterday being about the worst I'd experienced.

My youngest son is helping me design a web site now. I don't know if I will switch, it would be nice to hace a .com site and more control but it all depends on how well I can manage one since I am so not computer savvy.

I like this shot very much. Excellent framing. Good eye spotting this one.

Great shot, Tim! I agree with your frustration with Blogger. That's one of the reasons why I quit my Blogger account and started my new site. I host at Eleven2.com. Cheap prices and REALLY good service. I've never had an outage and I can always find an actual person to talk to if I have a question. They're always helpful and friendly.

I use Pixelpost for the design of my blog. They're at www.pixelpost.org. Somewhat more difficult to set up than Blogger, but much more stable and way more flexible.

Good luck in your search!

Blogger has been problematic lately. On the photo -- I wish it were a tad sharper. Doesn't hold the interest of many of your photos.

Hey Timmy,

I use Wordpress and 34sp hosting... I find both are bulletproof.

Funnily enough, I've taken a whole lot of padlock photos, they seem such a strong image, but none I've taken are as powerful as that ... perhaps its the rusty colours, or the non-symmetry of the shot. Great stuff!
