Took a minute to crop that picture. I took out the bench, so that the only point of light (point of interest) was the girl. Better? Also, here is a duck butt. A Stanley Park duck butt.

Haha funny picture of the duck. I am sure no one would want to be photographed in such a position!
About your blurry pic. I think its actually quite good that you thought about your picture and cropped it to make it interesting. As you said "you are learning".
But there is nothing wrong with this shot. Everyone has moments in which there is very little time to think or tinker settings and the picture come out bad. You can only improve it to a limited extent. What you can take from this photo is the knowledge of what "you could have done better next time". Thats how you can become a better photographer.
the texture on the water is pretty sweet.
