Fuzzy Pink

For quite some time, I have been trying to make photographs with selective focus. I have seen some excellent images that were taken through a veil of foliage, where the subject is the only thing in focus and everything else is severely blurred.

This was one of my earlier attempts, one of about twelve that I tried that day. It's not very good, but it's the best I've got. I think the technique itself worked pretty well here, but the composition is somewhat flawed. This would have worked better if the surrounding tulips were a different colour than the subject.

This works for me and more! I actually love the fact that the BG is the same color as the Subject tulip, and this one is really standing out and tall.

I love this one!!! and lovely composition too with the subject NOT in the center.

I quite like this. Well done. I like the composition. My only suggestion would be if the whole background had been pink and not included that little bit of other color at the top right of the frame, but that's a nit.

I think it works. Is this still without photoshop? I think it is beautifully done.

This works for me Timmy.
There is enough contrast between the flower and the background.
Lovely shot.

I love pink - I think this turned out well. I too work with my manual focus fairly often. Unfortunately I almost always leave in on manual and take a few photos before I remember!!!Duh!

I think this is fine as it is, however i agree with you on the fact that if the colours of the flowers in the back were a different colour it would have worked a lot better...Keep up the non PP :)

I love the shot and DoF - the pink works well. I would agree about the background colour. I posted a shot today that has pink and yellow. These two colours seem to work well togeter.

I am usually so selective that I end up putting the main subject out of focus as well !

I think that this is quite nice. I really like it.

One thing that I would say to you is put away the inner critic. We are our own worst critics and it crushes our creativity. So, how about putting up posts and letting us decide if we like it and how it can be improved?

I think that this is a beautiful shot and you are not going to change my mind about it! :-)

this actually works really well for me. bg color same as fg color is not necessarily a problem, in my book. the fact that that single tulip sticks up higher than the rest, in addition to being in focus, really works well. nicely done.
