Abstract Masts

We had a fantastic day of sailing on Wednesday. I took my camera in hopes of capturing some images of a beautiful day. Unfortunately, there was enough haze in the air, that the photos I took of the mountains did not turn out very well. Would a polarizing filter help with that?

This is one of the pictures I took when we got back to the marina. There were several different compositions, but this was my favourite. I feel like I'm really having trouble coming up with interesting compositions these days, but I'll keep shooting in hopes that my creativity will return.

Very cool shot. The curvy reflections are wonderful. And, yes, a polarizing filter can help with atmospheric haze.

VERY nice abstract. Love the lines and colors here. The diagonal crop works for me too.
Well done.

The diagonal framing is perfect. I blocked the traffic on the top right and just looked at the rest of the picture...looks unique...electric.

Very nice. Indeed! Keep on shooting, even when you don't feel like it. Let go and stop trying to be creative and just let it come. Just enjoy the moment.

Regards,

Paul

I love this. I think this is one of your best. The composition is wonderful the diagonal frame is terrific, it clear and crisp and beautiful.

I am also jealous, I LOVE boating! I haven't gone in ages!

As far as the polarizer and haze...won't hurt...I always use one although I am having trouble getting the size I need for the ne wequipment unless I want to shell out like $200 which is not going to happen...lol I will just be patient and wait for the less expensive ones to come in.

In response to the comment you left on my site, the challenges I was referring to can be found at dpchallenge.com (I have a link on my site). There are a lot of good tutorials on that site as well as message boards and the weekly challenges. I never score very high, but that is not the point. I am learning quite a bit and gradually my scores are rising. Check it out some time. Lots of good info. there.

Nice work, definitely one of your best. Keep shooting, we go through these times when we just aren't feeling it, but that doesn't mean it's not working.

Definitely get yourself a polarizing filter if you don't have one already. I've got them for my most used lenses, and step down rings for the lenses I don't use them on very often. It is my used used filter.

This is a fantastic shot! Really interesting and love the diagonal framing.

I've always heard use a UV filter for haze. But I'm sure the polarizing filter would help too.

I think you need to use a hood for the haze, sometimes I shadow the lens with my hand. Polarizer helps dealing with the reflections. In this photo white curves on blue looks like lightinings coming towards you, good catch. I'm wondering about the thin white lines, what are they reflections of?

This is really great. Beautiful colours, and the ripple on the reflections is very even. A well accomplished shot.
